The Title IX Compliance & Discrimination and Harassment Prevention Office (Title IX/DHP Office) provides a variety of standard and customized training programs to help faculty, staff, and students understand, prevent and respond to discrimination, harassment, and equity in work and academic environments. We highlight the latest campus and systemwide trends and provide information related to relevant policies and procedures regarding discrimination and harassment.

The training workshops offered by the Title IX/DHP Office are available to all campus members and departments.

Student Training

All incoming undergraduate students are required to complete training that contains information on sexual harassment and sexual violence identification and prevention, bystander intervention, campus resources, and potential response processes. During the reporting period, new freshmen, transfer students, and Education Abroad Program (EAP) reciprocity students were required to attend “Gaucho FYI,” an in-person educational workshop led by a professional staff member and a trained peer presenter, as well as “Sexual Assault Prevention for Undergraduates,” an online education program customized for undergraduate students.

All incoming and continuing graduate students also have annual training requirements. During the reporting period, new and continuing graduate students are assigned an online course customized for graduate students, and includes important information about identifying and responding to reports of sexual harassment and sexual violence, bystander intervention, support resources, and the Responsible Employee reporting requirements for student employees. Graduate students who were also UCSB employees are required to take either the online course for graduate students or the online course for staff; completion of one or the other fulfills their annual sexual harassment and sexual violence training requirements.
